Permit Required: No – busking is not a licensable activity. Selling goods or collecting for charity requires a street-trading consent or permit.

Best Practice Guide



The council has produced a Best Practice Guide in partnership with local stakeholders to minimize noise disturbance and intrusive behaviour.

Key Rules



  • Fixed Pitches: None – choose pitches considerately

  • Volume: Keep volume just above background noise, not intrusive

  • Break Schedule: Advised to take 15-minute breaks per 45 minutes of performance

  • Subject to Law: Busking is subject to the Noise and Statutory Nuisance Act 1993
